Choosing a domain name registrar - Does Size Matter?

It's touching, really, the number of people who still believe that their assets are better looked after by corporate giants. Go to any of the question that many Web sites and answer that specialize in domain names and you'll be told that it is better to go with giants like GoDaddy and Enom because we do not have to worry about failing and losing your name domain. "They'll be around for a while '!" is what you hear. It makes you wonder where in the world, these people have hidden the last year and a half. They have not heard of AIG, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch? Try to General Motors. Of course, only Lehman Brothers was allowed to fail, the others were considered too big to fail by the government and kept afloat with taxpayers' money.

In the arcane world of domain registrar, any ICANN accredited registrar (and this means any and all legitimate registrars regardless of size!) Is considered too big to fail by ICANN, and its domain names will be protected by shifting them to another registrar. The screen will go blank for a moment as your name ICANN processes. Try Googling "continuity ICANN" if you want to read the small print.

And 'this same level of protection available to small resellers of domain names? Yes Resellers are nothing but agents of ICANN accredited registrars. If your domain name is registered in your name (if not registered in your name does not have one), then you are registered with an ICANN accredited registrar, regardless of your dealer and the responsibility of the registrar has vis-a-vis the Your domain name is the same as with any other domain under its aegis. If you're curious about the identity of Your registrar, ask the dealer. If not tell you, it's time to take your money somewhere else because regulations ask ICANN to do so.

This does not mean you should not take into account the large registrars like GoDaddy and Enom domain name when you shop. Both are excellent companies and some people prefer to do business with the giants. Others seek smaller companies for various reasons. Just imagine how great it is not necessarily equal safe or that small means always danger when you search for domains with low cost and low cost web hosting....
